On the 15th of May 2010, Dave and Brendan, redoubtable fundraisers at Lovells, organised a fantastic turnout to walk at the Just Walk Charity Event for the COINS Foundation. This event allows participants to raise money for a charity of their choice. With 28 people walking for COINS Foundation, we had by far the strongest representation on the day.
Walkers can chose whether to do the 10km, 20km, 40km or 60km route. The Lovell team split into two and took part in the two longest distances: the 40km and the 60km. This charity event took the participants through lush forests, picturesque villages and stunning costal scenery, from the Goodwood Racecourse, across The Downs and back to Goodwood for the finish.
Spectacular though the countryside was, the team suffered for their cause! By the end of 60km, some had blisters that made their bare feet look like a pair of well-loved but shredded slippers! However, it was all to a good end – the Lovell team raised a titan amount – over £10,000. This money will allow 5 houses to be built in Ethiopia for people infected and affected by leprosy. Each house will be home to an average family of five, so each of the Lovell walkers has provided a home for a counterpart in Ethiopia. We hope they feel it was worth the blisters and will return again next year.
Well done guys!
