The charity committee at Chaucer Underwriters recently decided to brighten up their internal meetings by ordering boxes of freshly baked cookies from the Cookie Bar.
The Cookie Bar is an exciting and growing venture of COINS. Run as a social enterprise, profits are split between schools and COINS Foundation projects.
COINS Foundation Patron, Lord Joffe, opened the first Cookie Bar in October 2011 in Hindhead, Surrey. It is linked to Stepping Stones School, a school in Surrey providing specialist education for children with mild to moderate disabilities.
Children from the school benefit from weekly work experience at the Cookie Bar – they serve customers and bake cookies: it provides a safe environment for pupils to experience aspects of running a business and start their journeys to become social, economic and creative contributors.
In its first year of operation, students benefitted from 400 placements at the Cookie Bar.
Chaucer share the enthusiasm of the vision for the Cookie Bars, and are ‘delighted to help support the initiative as we believe the cause is truly worthwhile and just as importantly the cookies taste great!’
