We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the 2009 COINS 3 Peaks Challenge! For many of us at the COINS Foundation, this was the first time we had attended this extraordinary event. It was amazing to see so many people in the construction industry prepared to go to such lengths for the benefit of people they are unlikely to ever meet.

A lot has been said recently about how the recession is making things tough at the moment in the UK, especially in construction. However, literally hundreds of people from the industry turned out to demonstrate their support for people in Africa and the UK for whom life is always tough.

Although much of the fundraising is yet to happen, the event is already showing great promise with £260,000 pledged to date. Inevitably, this is a drop on last year’s total, but we are hoping to reach £300k before fundraising ends in September.

The COINS Foundation continues to support projects for disabled young people in the UK, and we hope to add a project for the chronically homeless. In Africa, we have supported work in Zambia, Uganda and Mozambique, but if we reach our £300k target, we are hopeful to add projects in Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.
