Have you ever thought about how you can shake up your staff away days? How about a team building event that helps a great cause?

A weekend in the Peak District is a great way to get your team out of the office and into the countryside, but to really challenge the norm, how about building your own shelter to sleep in over the weekend too?

On the 28th-30th June teams from across the housebuilding, property and construction sectors will come together in a friendly competition to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity, a charity whose vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. To take part, teams will fundraise towards their £3,000 target, which is a fantastic opportunity to engage suppliers and clients in the challenge and team element. Although united behind a good cause, there will be high levels of competitiveness as the teams seek to smash their targets.

A key component of the prep is the design planning for the teams’ temporary accommodation, this is when battle lines are drawn. Secrecy is key – there is nothing worse than competitors stealing meticulously planned ideas.

Manuela, one of the judges from last year’s Hope Challenge, has the following advice:

Be creative! We are looking for innovation and uses of materials that will surprise us so think outside the tarpaulin tent. We also observe how the teams work together and how that reflects their business values. We have watched teams building together and said to each other, wow that must be an amazing place to work, look how much fun they are having.

But what happens when the teams arrive in the Peak District?

The team will spend the first day building their new castle (or more modest dwelling) followed by a cosy night’s sleep next to their teammates before the following day when everyone will explore the beautiful surroundings with a trek. Now we are not talking Bear Grylls here with no rations and a rescue helicopter on stand-by but more a timed, fast paced walk through the hills with a map to guide the participants. On navigating the way back to base the teams will then compete in mental challenges designed to test intellect and more importantly to help the judges complete their scoring.

The competition will now be reaching its finale but before everyone gets to sit and bask in the summer evening glow with aches of achievement and fond memories of the weekend, the winners must be announced. After the final scores are added and a short deliberation between the judges, the teams will find out who will be crowned the Hope Champions of 2019 and win the amazing, once in a life time prize that COINS have kindly sponsored. The winning team will have the opportunity to travel overseas and see first-hand the impact of the charity’s work and to build a home alongside the family who will receive it. Not only will food, accommodation, and flights be covered by COINS, the Hope Champions will also have building bragging rights and a trophy to display in their office lobby.

Everyone taking part is a winner to those that they help with their fundraising efforts, but there’s only one Hope Champions Trophy so get a team registered today so that your company is in the running for this prestigious prize!
